Drink now or cellar for up to 12 years. No need to decant before serving. Named "Winery of the Year" by Food & Wine magazine, Long Shadows has already established itself as one of the premier producers of Columbia Valley wines. The project was founded in 2003 aby Allen Shoup, the former CEO of Chateau Ste. Michelle who helped put Washington State on the map for worldclass wines. Long Shadows focuses on the Columbia Valley and is a collaboration with many of the world’s top winemakers who bring their own flair to the project. This Syrah is the brainchild of John Duval who has served as winemaker of Australia’s legendary Penfolds Grange for 16 years. In 2003 John came to the Columbia Valley to create this "Sequel" to his lifelong work with Syrah. Fruit is sourced from three different Columbia Valley regions which all give different characteristics to the wine. The Yakima Valley tends to give bright, elegant nuance, while the Red Mountain Syrah contributes structure and backbone and Bacchus Valley brings plenty of ripe fruit and colour. Expressive notes of wild blackberry, cassis and dark cherry dominate on the nose, with the palate offering a solid core of dark fruit peppered with granite, cured meat and oaky spice hints. The rich full body and punchy tannins make this a great match for hearty red meat dishes, although it can also be cellared for a few more years if desired.
